The Organization:

LGM is a national leader in providing warranty, finance and insurance services to the Canadian automotive industry. Since 1998, LGM has been successfully supplying quality products and leading training solutions with strategic partnerships with automotive manufacturing brands, which include BMW/MINI, Kia, Mazda, Volvo, Jaguar, LandRover, Mitsubishi Motors, Polestar and Motorrad. 

Reporting to the Data Engineering Team Lead, the Database Administrator (DBA) is primarily responsible for the performance, availability, security, and recovery of local and cloud-based solutions for data storage, management, and retrieval. The DBA will focus extensively on managing databases in Azure SQL Managed Instances, On-premises SQL servers and Azure Data Factories, ensuring high availability and robust data pipeline architectures. 

Salary Range: $80,000- 100,000

Hybrid role: 1-2 days a month in office.

The Work:

 

  • Plan, build, and maintain cloud-based, relational and unstructured, high availability, and high-quality database management systems and warehouses with a strong emphasis on SQL Managed Instances and on-premises SQL servers.
  • Develop and manage Azure Data Factories, creating and optimizing data pipelines for efficient ETL processes and data ingestion from external sources.
  • Implement continuous security, performance, and issues monitoring processes across all data platforms and recommend, develop, and implement preventative actions.
  • Plan, maintain, and regularly test high availability and disaster recovery architecture, particularly for SQL Managed Instances.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of standards, tools, and processes for data management and ETL.
  • Balance resources and scheduling to maintain and improve database and process performance within established resource limits.
  • Automate repetitive database tasks and develop centralized monitoring of all database environments and processes.
  • Engage in all aspects of the Agile process, proactively contributing to improvements to minimize rework/waste and increase quality and velocity.
  • Stay abreast of software industry best practices, processes, and technologies, and actively encourage their adoption within the Sprint Team and LGM
  • Champion continuous improvement to facilitate and ensure the modernization of LGM's data systems.


Desirable Technical Skills: 
 

  • Strong database management skills in a SQL Server cloud database environment, with extensive experience with Azure SQL Managed Instances.
  • Extensive and proven T-SQL scripting skills.
  • Experience using PowerShell in Azure and manage certain data administration tasks.
  • Experience with always-on high availability technology.
  • Good knowledge of IaaS, SaaS, and PaaS.
  • Proficiency in managing and optimizing Azure Data Factories and developing data pipelines.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of unstructured data management principles.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience managing Azure resources is a plus.
  • Experience monitoring database instances.


Required Experience: 

• Minimum of 5 years' experience in a DBA role.
