Powertech has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Senior Electrical Technician within its Asset Management Solutions division. We offer multi-disciplinary engineering support through technology evaluation for suitability, material selection and specification, pre-commissioning support and quality assurance, developing inspection or repair strategies, condition assessment for extending life, or failure analysis at end of life. Within the division, the EV Infrastructure team offers their expertise in designing and executing test programs to thoroughly evaluate functionality and fitness for purpose of new technologies before launching broadscale deployment or customer incentive programs. The department also plays an integral role in helping our parent company, BC Hydro, achieve their deployment targets for public charging.

Duties:

  • Acts as work leader, provides technical direction to and performs some of the same functions as the Electrical Technician job.
  • Assists in writing technical reports and test procedures under the project leadership of an engineer or technologist.
  • Assists in the development of new and non-standard test procedures under the project leadership of an engineer or technologist.
  • Designs and builds custom testing and measurement equipment under the project leadership of an engineer or technologist.
  • Performs repairs and maintenance on test equipment that are beyond the routine scope of the Electrical Technician job.
  • Acts as a project leader on internal maintenance and development projects.
  • Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate of Technology from an Institute of Technology in Electronics (power/control option), Electrical, Power, Telecommunications, Instrumentation or Automation disciplines with preference given to the discipline directly relating to the position or lab.
  • Additional training in the development, setup and operation of high-power electrical testing equipment required.
  • Three (3) years of related experience working in a lab setting up and performing tests on a variety of electrical power equipment and components.

In addition, the following skillset are desired:

  • Good working knowledge of the analysis and testing procedures for a variety of electrical power equipment.
  • Good working knowledge on how to apply failure analysis testing to a variety of electrical power equipment.
  • Good knowledge of the operation, manufacturing processes, machining and related construction techniques for electric power equipment.
  • Good working knowledge of how to calibrate, maintain and repair related high power testing instrumentation and equipment and apply accepted testing standards.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of how to interpret and adapt high power mechanical laboratory testing procedures.
  • Good working knowledge of high voltage/high power testing and analysis procedures, testing standards and quality assurance principles.
  • Ability to modify existing test methods to perform unique tests or achieve different results.
  • Good knowledge of circuit analysis.
  • Ability to demonstrate and train technical staff of specific testing techniques.
  • Excellent knowledge of related testing standards and procedures.
  • Good technical report writing skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Good organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, manlift and large platform.
  • Ability to operate photographic and video equipment.
  • Good knowledge of related safety and WHMIS regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office applications.


Job status: Full time temporary - 6 months less a day
Job location: Surrey - in office
Job grade: MoveUp, group 9 
Salary Range: $70K - $76K
