About the Role
Manufacturing Engineering champions the design, build, and development of the assembly processes required to assemble full perimeter frames, front and rear cradles and rear twist axles for our customers. Also, champions the prototype process to prove out the assembly process of the previously listed products. Leads the development and improvement of packaging methods for new and existing programs including bin and dunnage selection or modification. Updates current and prepare plant layout drawings with modifications to the existing lines and installations of new lines and processes. Tracks E-coat system capacity and propose changes to increase through put.
Your Responsibilities
• Handles medium-sized projects from inception to completion (timing, concept, feasibility, design, construction, try-out, launch, final buy-off (production part approval process [PPAP] and run at rate), prototype programs, and engineering changes) with moderate follow-up by leadership.
• Conducts appropriate Manpower efficiency studies - through time and motion studies or standard data (MOST is the Modatek standard), line balancing manpower, machine charts and analysis
• Prepares reports, charts and other documentation required for engineering records and projects
• Works with all departments and customers to design solutions that improve production efficiency, ergonomics, safety and maintenance related issues
• Supports continuous improvement initiatives
• Assists in developing material handling logistics (i.e. - Aisle layout, bin placement, dunnage assists, etc.)
• Reviews, monitors and co-ordinates tooling design, build, approval process and capital budgets
• Supervises equipment relocation and installation to Modatek
• Assists in setting up preventative maintenance program for new equipment
• Assists in resolving quality concerns
• Reviews, co-ordinates and implements all customer approved engineering changes, including part level communication updates, physical part update, process sheet update, physical tooling change, etc.
• Interfaces with production departments, customers and vendors to design packaging solutions to improve production planning, efficiency, ergonomic design and economic viability of our operation
• Reviews, monitors and co-ordinates custom packaging design, build, approval process and capital budgets
• Assists in setting up preventive maintenance program for e-coat and shipping racks
• Co-ordinates all required actions to resolve quality and safety concerns related to packaging
• Reviews, co-ordinates and implements packaging changes as a result of customer approved engineering changes
• Supports new business quoting process with packaging recommendation including pack densities and design concepts for custom racks
• Updates and documents current plant layouts

• Supports activities for successful attainment of PPAP and GP-9
• Knows and understands process documentation and customer specific requirements as they relate to this job function
• Additional projects and responsibilities as required.

• Performs other duties as required
Who we are looking for
• Post-secondary education in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering
• Minimum three (3) years work-related experience within a lean manufacturing environment, preferably automotive assembly
• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Practical experience in costing and quoting
• Experience in Project Management
• Able to read and interpret CAD drawings, experience with AutoCAD
• Proven presentation skills for customer interface
• Ability to work overtime to meet customer needs
