Valard is Canada's premier utility contractor, as well as head of the Valard Group of Companies AND part of the Quanta Group, the largest electrical power contractor in North America. Valard has full-service capabilities for transmission, distribution, substations, foundations, telecommunications, and renewable energy construction projects.
Reporting to the Support Services Manager, the Truck and Coach Technician - 310T is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of heavy trucks and construction equipment to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational efficiency. This role requires in-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Requirements
1. Inspection and Diagnostics:
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and inspections on trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment.
• Identify and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools.
2. Repairs and Maintenance:
• Repair or replace defective parts, components, and systems, including engines, brakes, transmissions, and suspension systems.
• Service and maintain diesel and gas engines, air brakes, hydraulic systems, and electronic control systems.
• Conduct welding and fabrication as needed for equipment repair.
3. Compliance and Documentation:
• Ensure vehicles meet regulatory and safety standards (MTO and DOT compliance).
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, inspections, and parts used.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on equipment when necessary.
4. Safety and Collaboration:
• Adhere to workplace health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Collaborate with other team members and departments to ensure timely equipment availability for project needs.
• Provide mentorship and training to apprentices or junior mechanics, as required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a licensed 310T Journeyman.
• Experience with construction equipment (e.g., excavators, loaders, and dump trucks) is an advantage.
• Valid 310T Truck and Coach Technician license.
• Red Seal certification is an asset.
• Valid driver's license (DZ mandatory and AZ preferred).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, heavy truck components, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools and software.
• Ability to read technical manuals and schematics.
• Strong problem-solving and time-management skills.
• Welding and fabrication skills are an asset.
