Journeyman - Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Position Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of mobile equipment in assigned areas.

Responsibilities:
 

• Work in compliance to all applicable environmental, health and safety Acts, policies and procedures and work in the manner with the protective devices, measures, policies and procedures required.
• Work in compliance to the maintenance plan and or scheduled tasks.
• Attend daily safety meetings to communicate safety instruction and awareness, any critical information pertaining to shift or the site, and discuss any concerns required to be addressed.
• Work with the supervisor, planner and co-workers on daily, weekly and monthly maintenance plans ensuring availability of manpower, equipment, tools, service and resources.
• Ensure adequate material is made available for any task prior to starting the work in order to maximize productivity.
• Support all maintenance plans to obtain and sustain desired operating performance
• Recommend measures or changes to improve methods, equipment performance and use of equipment and personnel to increase efficiency of department and entire mine. Must be willing to continuously improve
• Ensure all work completed supports activities of the subsequent shifts; communicate these activities to the respective shift supervisor.
• Train Apprentices and or Subordinates when required to do so
• Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the work area both during and after completing a task. This includes cleaning, tagging and returning used parts.

Qualifications:
 

• Journeyman status required
• Good organizational and procedure skills (written and Verbal)
• Equipment Operating Skills preferred
• Dedication to safety measures and best practices required
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team required
• Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions required
• Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of this job required
• Enthusiasm and proactive attitude

About the Team

Hemlo has produced more than 21 million ounces of gold and has been operating continuously for more than 30 years. It consists of the Williams mine operation, including an underground mine, and 4mtpa gold processing facility. Hemlo is located about 350 kilometers east of Thunder Bay, Ontario on Highway 17.
