Job description
The Auto Body Repairer is required to perform specific tasks in the repair and maintenance of vehicles. They restore damaged vehicles to their original structural integrity, function and appearance. The jobholder uses hand and power tools to remove or repair damaged parts, weld where necessary, and correctly install new parts. The Auto Body Repairer works with a variety of metals and plastics, as well as glass, electrical and mechanical parts. Damaged vehicles need to be properly repaired so that they function as intended, especially in the event of subsequent collisions. The dent remover will work effectively with the paint department to achieve an efficient vehicle flow.
Tasks:
- Review damage report, repair orders, repair cost estimates and plan work to be performed;
- Manage work assignments to meet targets set by Production Manager and Parts Manager;
- Repair and replace front-end components, body components, doors, frame and underbody components according to manufacturer's specifications;
- Remove dents, buckles and other defects using blocks and hammers;
- Operate welding equipment or use plastic filler material to fill holes, dents and joints;
- Remove damaged fenders, panels and grilles using wrenches and a cutting torch, and bolt or weld replacement parts in place as required;
- Straighten bent frames using frame and underframe pulling and anchoring equipment;
- File, grind and sand repaired body surfaces using hand and power tools. Masking and gluing body surfaces in preparation for painting;
- Repair and replace glass components such as windscreens, windows and sunroofs;
- Repair or replace interior components, such as seat frame assembly, carpets and floor insulation;
- Inspect repaired vehicles and test vehicles to ensure quality of repairs;
- Install new and additional equipment as required;
- Carry out first-, second- and third-line repairs, as well as vehicle modifications;
- Monitor parts usage and report any problems with materials;
- Assist in ordering replacement equipment, parts and supplies as required;
- Accurately complete work orders and time sheets;
- Test performance of repaired equipment and ensure compliance with restoration and repair quality standards, to reduce and eliminate rework and warranty claims; - Maintain detailed and accurate reports and documentation.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience. preferred;
- Valid driver's licence.

Training
- High School Diploma or college diploma in auto body repair;
- Bodywork Ttechnician's licence.
