Brandt is currently looking for a Heavy Equipment Technician - Material Handling for our Saskatoon location. The Heavy Equipment Technician - Material Handling independently performs basic/complex diagnostics, service maintenance and repair work on customer and/or dealer-owned equipment on an efficient basis. Resolves customer issues to their satisfaction on a timely basis.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Financial Performance:
 

  • Work within budgets and approvals provided by the Service Manager.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity, efficiency, and gross margin.
  • Maintain a quality of work metric of 98% (% of work completed right the first time).


Work Systems and Procedures:
 

  • Accurately record all work done for customer and warranty records.
  • Maintain current product knowledge of equipment specific to industry/branch location.
  • Maintain a clean work area and perform work in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments. Must maintain thorough understanding of Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) systems and standards, and a commitment to a safe working environment, ensuring all employees and customers are kept safe at all times.
  • Ensure knowledge and compliance of proper procedure for disposal of hazardous waste material.
  • Work within the guidelines set by the directors and managers.
  • Perform all service tasks as assigned by the Material Handling Service Manager or the Material Handling Service Department Foreman.
  • Participate in Service Training programs required for the development of skills and knowledge. This may also include training related industry-specific technologies.
  • Maintain and care for department tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Mentor and oversee apprentices.


Diagnostic and Mechanical, Electrical, or Hydraulic Repair:
 

  • Perform basic/complex power equipment diagnostics to determine repair needs.
  • Diagnose and repair all related systems (disassembly, assembly, and repair).
  • Perform customer, manufacturer, or government inspections on equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment (such as forklifts, stackers, electric carts, electric tow trucks, transporters).
  • Utilize drill presses, grinders, air compressors, and common hand/ power tools to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on material handling equipment.
  • Prepare all reports and forms required in conjunction with job assignments (Work Order submitted immediately at completion of job).

Required Skills

 

  • Outstanding knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems and propane systems.
  • Demonstrated diagnostic skills to understand mechanical and electrical systems of battery and engine powered material handling equipment.
  • Experience with the use of hand tools and measuring devices, and electrical/electronic diagnostic tools/measurements.
  • Knowledge and experience with industrial equipment that includes lifting / rigging, maintaining, dismantling, and installing machinery and industrial mechanical service equipment.
  • Exposure to aligning equipment, using dial indicators/calipers, micrometers, hoists or jacks is a plus.
  • Strong time-management skills to perform effectively under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills, showing an appreciation of customer needs.
  • Trade qualification (Heavy Equipment, Agriculture, Automotive, Truck/Transport) considered an asset
