Position Summary
Within a consultant business setting, the Health & Safety Associate is responsible for supporting a client within the construction/ automotive Industry. Reporting to the HSE Operations Managing Principal, this position is accountable for a number of responsibilities ranging from overseeing a construction project from a health & safety perspective, to managing all OHS requirements within the assigned facility ensuring compliance.
Some Key Responsibilities
• Provides expertise and advice to clients, colleagues and management on health, safety and environmental issues within the Automotive/Construction setting;
• Provides internal and external reports, timesheets and other required documentation
• Familiarization with client project specific safety plans and manages all personnel from a H&S perspective ensuring compliance.
Ie. Onsite trades, subcontractor H&S program documents and or permits while conducting orientations, safety talks and training as required
• Supports Occupational Safety, & Health strategies
• Conducts regular safety inspections/audits of the site, take necessary and timely corrective actions to eliminate unsafe acts or conditions and to fulfill the needs and expectations of the client
• Assists with on-site incidents, accidents, investigations and H&S requirements;
• Liaison with regulatory agency officials in the course of onsite visits for any H&S occurrences;
• Performs other duties as assigned to support the operations team
Qualifications/Requirements
• Certificate or Diploma in Occupational health & safety or a trade certification;
• Over 5 years onsite Health & Safety experience within automotive construction preferred;
• Proficient with computer applications, tablets and the Microsoft suite of products;
• Strong working knowledge of the Ontario OHSA and Regulations for Automotive Construction projects
• Field level safety audit and inspection experience
• Excellent at managing expectations, shows initiative and can multitask;
• High-level of interpersonal skills, working in a team environment with effective communication both verbally and in writing;
• Has completed the following basic certifications such as working at heights, WHMIS, and Ontario 4 steps.
