Job description

A successful Metrology Technician will work with a cross-functional team of Engineers, Machinists, and other technicians to measure components and subassemblies. As part of an R&D team, no two days will be the same. The candidate must be highly motivated to learn and grow, as there is a wide array of metrology equipment onsite that require experts to extract their full potential. The candidate must also remain flexible to accommodate shifting priorities and schedules. Responsibilities
 

  • Program and operate CMM equipment to measure highly complex components with tight tolerances
  • Program and operate gear measure equipment
  • Work with various other types of measurement technology (optical measurement, profile projectors, height gauges, and other types of manual inspections)
  • Prepare inspection reports according to critical characteristics on drawings
  • Coordinate calibrations and work to improve equipment maintenance issues
  • Source metrology equipment as needed to fill capability gaps as they arise
  • Practice 5S cyclical methodology (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain) to drive continuous improvement in the lab workspace


Requirements
 

  • 5 years minimum experience programming and operating a CMM
  • Experience in both Calypso and MCOSMOS is an asset
  • Ability to design inspection fixtures as needed to hold parts during measurement
  • Ability to work under the pressure of tight deadlines
  • Ability to design hard gauges is an asset
  • Strong understanding of GD&T as per ASME Y14.5
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Experience working with tight tolerances in metric (microns)
