Test Bench Automation Engineer
Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, this role will be supporting the hardware and software design teams on a day-to-day basis.
This role will be a 100% on-site based out of our Guelph, ON office.
Performance Expectations:
- Maintain and update existing code for automated test bench system.
- Develop new scripts and software modules to extend capabilities of existing test bench system.
- Assist with configuring Simulink models and target hardware for real-time Hardware-in-the-Loop simulations.
- Develop an understanding of multiple Skyjack machine families at the electrical and functional level by working with design engineers and by analyzing machine design and functional requirements.
- Analyze electrical design of machines and functional/diagnostic requirements of machine controllers to determine how to interface black-box controllers with test hardware.
- Design electrical systems and wire harnesses to interface machine controllers under test, motors, power supplies, and test hardware together.
- Troubleshoot and debug test bench system hardware and software.
- Produce clear technical documentation describing test system design.
Credentials:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering/applied science or related field (Electrical, Mechanical, automotive, mechatronics or other engineering), or in lieu of degree, relevant experience.
Desired Characteristics:
- 1+ years of embedded software test experience, preferably in mobile or automotive industry, or equivalent experience.
- Strong experience with automated test development and implementation.
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink suite of tools.
- Ability to read, understand, design, and review electrical schematics and wire diagrams.
- Effective and clear documentation and communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with designing and building hardware-in-the-loop test systems and simulations.
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Simulink Real-Time, Simulink Test, and Speedgoat target PC hardware.
- Hands-on experience with black box and/or white box testing.
- Hands-on experience with designing, building, and troubleshooting electrical systems and wire harnesses using hand tools.
- Experience with CAN bus communications protocols (base protocol, CANopen, J1939) and physical layer design and troubleshooting.
- Experience designing and validating physical models of mechanical, electrical, and/or hydraulic systems for simulation using Simulink/Simscape.
- Experience with embedded software development, especially in functionally safe applications.
- Experience within mobile off-road construction machinery or similar industry.
- Experience with 2D and 3D CAD software.
- Experience with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
