Based at our Calgary plant location, we are hiring a permanent, full time Fleet Superintendent. This role is responsible for providing economical and efficient transportation services for their respective Division and its raw material customers through: Providing transportation for customers' raw materials at minimum costs, consistent with excellent customer service, sound operation practices, safety and full regulatory compliance. Maintaining all company vehicles and associated equipment, as well as ensuring a clean, safe and orderly transportation environment. Leading a Fleet & Transportation team consisting of drivers, truck mechanics and dispatchers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise fleet & transportation department staff training to ensure that the truck shop and trucks are operated in a safe and proper manner
- Monitor 3rd party carriers in and out of the respective division to ensure company equipment and raw materials are being handled properly - including invoicing on purchase orders, if requested
- Direct the activity of the Dispatcher(s) to ensure the availability of trucks and related equipment as needed
- Work alongside the Maintenance Shop Foreman on the repair, service and maintenance of vehicles to NSC/provincial standards and CMMS is being used to its full potential
- Review KPIs and other data related to raw materials trucking operations to ensure all fleet assets are being used to their optimal levels while maximizing profitability for the company
- Review monthly management statements to determine financial performance and identify variances or opportunities for improvement or correction
- Actively participate in the annual budget process by preparing the divisional budget in relation to trucking department and customer service (trucks, trailers, personnel, raw materials containers, plant materials handling equipment)
- Participate in development of truck specifications for trucks, trailers and personnel alongside the Corporate Transportation and Logistics Manager
- Recruit, hire and train the necessary personnel (eg. drivers, truck shop mechanics and dispatch) to staff the fleet & transportation department at the forecast level of operation
- Conduct performance reviews as required, including implementing performance management or improvement plans for underperforming staff
- Ensures all data required by government departments (eg. CFIA) is provided in a timely manner when requested
- Provide customer service and support to raw material suppliers
- Review incoming raw materials to ensure consistency with WCRL's quality control standards
- Respond to raw material spills or rollovers on and off-site and ensure appropriate clean up in cooperation with governing agencies
- Prepare incident or accident reports relating to vehicle accidents or damages to fleet vehicles for submission to Plant Manager and WCRL Executive Team
- Actively monitor insurance, permits and licences are in place to operate the pick-up of raw materials; complete insurance, permit or licence applications for submission
- Ensure compliance with applicable Municipal, Provincial, Canadian and International laws and regulations covering the inspection, licensing, insurance and operation of motor vehicles and attached equipment
- Adhere to the company Code of Conduct and all West Coast Reduction Ltd. policies
- Encourage a safety culture where employees do not put themselves or others at risk
- People development and active management of direct reports
- Foster a positive team and company culture by ensuring treatment of others is respectful and aligned with company values
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5 years of senior leadership experience in trucking, transportation or similar environment or industry
- Strong knowledge of truck maintenance and mechanics preferred
- Commercial transportation mechanic ticket and/or class 1 license an asset
- Aptitude in computer applications such as Microsoft Office and similar systems
- Proficiency with logistics technology
- Excellent command of the English language, both verbal and written, with effective communication skills
