Facility Services Coordinator

This position is responsible for the coordination, monitoring, and maintenance of all County Facilities including but not limited to, county buildings, property, and security systems. Coordinates quotes for contracted services following procurement processes. Works collaboratively with vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure timely completion of repairs and maintenance. Supports initiatives related to organizational off-site events and coordinates internal department requests.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilities Maintenance (50%) 
 

  • Provides maintenance and upgrades for all the County facilities.
  • Performs various repairs and improvements relating to facility maintenance such as but not limited to, painting, electrical, carpentry, carpentry, plumbing, filter changes, and other facilities maintenance tasks for the County.
  • Organizes and coordinates support and quotations as required from 3rd party contractors or vendors in relation to any facility maintenance tasks or projects.
  • Coordinates the monitoring of all facility systems daily/monthly/annually and season dependant.
  • Tests facility related systems, emergency lighting etc. on monthly basis or as necessary as directed by the facilities supervisor.
  • Monitors and replaces as necessary any interior or exterior lighting.
  • Changes any filters as required for HVAC systems as directed by the facilities supervisor.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the area around all administration facilities.
  • Removes snow utilizing snow blower and or shovel to permit safe access to and from parking lots.
  • Oversees the recycling for all facilities and contributes to improvement of the program.


Organizational Support (40%)
 

  • Maintains the security system (includes weekly cell phone checks).
  • Issues security cards and monitors the Security System (Chubb).
  • Coordinates 3rd party custodial support as it relates to cleanliness of facilities, including carpet/window cleaning and floor waxing.
  • Collaborates with other departments for after hours support for public engagements including proper closing of facilities.
  • Provides support in Inspecting fire extinguishers and alarm system monthly.
  • Empties mailbox on daily basis from mail slot at front of administrative building, redirecting mail as appropriate.
  • Delivers large mail outs to Post Office (Taxes, Water bills, Economic Development and County Connection).
  • Picks up County supplies as required.
  • Participates in a regular rotation on-call status for facilities.
  • Organizes and coordinates the relocation of office furniture and equipment.
  • Attends to shipments in receiving area at loading dock as required
  • Maintains key libraries for all locations
  • Assist with flag protocols at all locations.
  • Assist with eco-waste program and collection of items for disposal.
  • Assist with generator back up system testing.


Other Related Duties (10%) 
 

  • Completes other assigned duties and special projects as directed by supervisor or Manager, Fleet & Facility Services.
  • Adheres to applicable responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health and Safety Management System.
  • Adheres to all of Sturgeon County's policies, bylaws, procedures and processes, as well as align work to the Sturgeon County values.


KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE 

Required:
 

  • Knowledge of carpentry, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing techniques and principles.
  • At least one trade certification related to facilities such as but not limited to plumbing, electrical, carpentry and or HVAC. Electrical Certification considered a priority.
  • The ability to adapt to new and changing situations.
  • Ability to work in a team environment or independently.
  • Ability to take initiative, be independent, resourceful, work well and effectively under pressure and meet deadlines in an organized manner.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally verbally and in writing, including being adaptable, receptive, and timely when communicating with others, and possessing tact and discretion.
  • Ability to apply sound judgment and being accountable for own work.
  • Detail oriented and mathematical aptitude.
  • Proficiency when using all Microsoft Office Programs, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience with working in the areas of carpentry, mechanical maintenance, electrical, and plumbing.


Assets:
 

  • Level 5 Power Engineer certificate would be an asset.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL EFFORTS
 

  • The work may be performed in extreme temperatures or high levels of noise, with exposure to varying weather and outdoor conditions.
  • The position requires the individual to be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds (24 kilograms) and be able to bend, twist, kneel, squat, crawling, and climb ladders.
