Job description

Valard Construction LP, is Canada's premier utility contractor, as well as head of the Valard Group of Companies AND part of the Quanta Group, the largest electrical power contractor in North America. Valard has full-service capabilities for transmission, distribution, substations, foundations, telecommunications and renewable energy.

The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing our fleet of vehicles, ensuring they remain in optimal working condition. This includes diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues, performing regular preventative maintenance, and ensuring all vehicles comply with safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have extensive mechanical experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.

Requirements
 

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues in a variety of vehicles, including engines, hydraulics, and emission systems.
  • Work on a diverse range of heavy equipment, including construction equipment, utility vehicles (e.g., digger trucks, aerial trucks, cranes, hydrovac, directional drillers), and more.
  • Perform CVIP (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program) inspections (preference will be given to candidates with this certification).
  • Conduct regular preventative maintenance tasks to ensure all fleet vehicles are in safe and operational condition.
  • Complete safety checks on fleet vehicles to ensure compliance with local and federal regulations.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and provide roadside assistance when needed.
  • Collaborate with other team members and drivers to identify and resolve vehicle-related concerns.
  • Ensure efficient and prompt completion of tasks to minimize vehicle downtime and maximize fleet availability.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
 

  • 3 - 5 years applicable for Fleet Mechanic experience.
  • Completion of an High school diploma is preferred.
  • Achievement of or in process of acquiring Heavy Duty Red Seal Journeyman Certificate or be a Third-Year Apprentice.
  • An acceptable combination of education and experience to fulfil the role.


KSAS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES) 
 

  • Strong expertise in diagnostics, specifically for engines, hydraulics, and emission systems.
  • Experience with a wide variety of heavy equipment, including construction and utility vehicles such as digger trucks, aerial trucks, cranes, hydrovac units, and directional drillers.
  • Preference given to candidates who can perform CVIP inspections.
  • Valid Driver's License is required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure situations while keeping a focus on safety and efficiency.
  • Willingness to respond to emergencies and provide roadside assistance.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with team members and drivers.
