Position Responsibilities
Repair, troubleshoot, adjust, overhaul and maintain drilling equipment and mobile support equipment used within the scope of Boart Longyear Drilling operations. This position will be located in Haileybury, Ontario.

Main duties
Mechanics perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Check for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine extent of repair required
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems, using hand and power tools
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets regulatory specifications
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment
  • Perform repair work on all Boart Longyear Drilling equipment
  • May service specialty attachments or components and maintain, adjust and repair such items
  • Ensure standards for safe working conditions are observed
  • Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities with other departments
  • Requisition parts, materials and supplies
  • Resolve work problems and recommend work measures to improve productivity
  • Experience with LM drills, Swick drills, Minecats and Kubotas would be an asset

Employment requirements

  • Millwright or Heavy-Duty Mechanic Trade Certification (Red Seal)
  • Completion of secondary school is usually required
  • Completion of three- to five-year apprenticeship program
  • This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver's license. The successful candidate would have to provide proof that s/he has a valid driver's license upon being hired, by submitting a driver's abstract to Human Resources
  • Standard First Aid
  • Underground common core would be an asset
  • Basic Safety Orientation, an asset
  • Schedule to be negotiated

Education and Experience: 
Typically requires a High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 3+ years of directly related experience.
