Position Title: Sr. Manager - Fleet Operations

Reports to: Senior Director, Risk Management & Corporate Security

Location: Head Office/Hybrid (95 Browns Line, Etobicoke)

Position Overview

The Senior Manager - Fleet Operations will report to the Senior Director, Risk & Corporate Security. They will be responsible for Fleet & Garage Management, the National Fleet Program, Fleet Maintenance and Safety.

Fleet & Garage Management
 

  • Lead the implantation of new Fleet Management system(s)
  • Oversee the management of all Brink's fleet to ensure cost targets are established appropriately and met (down time, cost per KM, maintenance, repairs, fleet labour, buy vs. lease elections)
  • Lead, develop and support in-house garage employees to drive attainment of all metrics through provision of guidance and/or decision making documentation
  • Drive continuous improvement - using lean methodologies (5S, 5 why and kaizen) drive continuous change to ensure an environment of ongoing improvement as it pertains to all elements of fleet management
  • Ensure best practices in design, garage management and fuel management are developed, documented and maintained. Roll out best practices nationally, provide communications on updates/enhancements as they are established
  • Working with SVP, Operations, develop a roadmap that details out fleet management systems, processes, truck design and organizational structure
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with relevant government regulatory bodies in the jurisdiction, and act as the primary contact for all licensed vehicle related issues
  • Support and lead additional projects as assigned


Manage National Fleet Program
 

  • Develop and maintain the National Fleet Program
  • Develop, implement and oversee a national Parts Sourcing Strategy
  • Facilitate and manage major repairs, within the scope of the National program, ensuring compliance and safety requirements are met
  • Develop annual fleet renewal and disposal recommendations
  • Ensure efficient utilization of national assets in cooperation with the Regional Operations teams - including vehicle rotation
  • Manage vendor performance and relationships, including service levels and compliance
  • Execute National Fleet Standards in the regions, and ensure compliance at all locations
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with vehicle leasing suppliers, chassis suppliers and up fitters
  • Work with Global Procurement on all Fleet related items to ensure compliance with corporate policies and to generate savings
  • Collaborates with Risk Management and Insurance carriers to monitor accident assessments, costs and follow up on damage responsibilities


Fleet Maintenance & Safety
 

  • Monitor and establish scheduled vehicle Preventive Maintenance programs through the company's vendor, including warranty repairs
  • Responsible for the development, delivery, and oversight management of the fleet safety programs and procedures; ensure fleet safety program effectiveness is regularly evaluated
  • Analyzing accident data, researching, identifying, investigating problems and recommending corrective actions
  • Appraise Computerized On-Board system; makes recommendations to senior management in response to data indications
  • Ensure Vehicle Safety Inspections and Preventative Maintenance data is tracked and that all branches are held to the appropriate standards
  • Champions safety efforts in communications at all levels of the organization from senior leadership to hourly employees
  • Identify opportunities to provide driver training and assessments on existing and new equipment
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of all vehicles at all regional locations in support of regulatory code and inspection requirements
  • Ensure up to date maintenance of complete historical records for all vehicles, with the vendor and in-house
  • Have a focus on best practices, emerging technology and assist in adherence to established security principles and safety.


Qualifications
 

  • Minimum 10 year of experience in the heavy truck transportation field, with some fleet management experience
  • Knowledge of Fleet Safety Management procedures
  • Comprehensive knowledge of provincial and Transport Canada regulatory requirements
  • Proven experience and knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and truck mechanics
  • Customer focused with the proven effective organizational skills to deliver on plans & commitments on time and on budget
  • Valid AZ/Class 3 (or equivalent) driver's license with clean abstract
  • Strong leadership/coaching skills with the ability to influence and manage change
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications; Word, Excel and PowerPoint


Major challenges: Decentralized vehicle locations, operational needs support vs. vehicle downtime needs

Decision making authority: lease vs. buy; scrap vs. repair; maintenance schedule updates
