Position Overview

The City's Traffic Engineering Section within the Transportation Services and Fleet Management Services Department is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of both pedestrians and vehicles on City owned roads, sidewalks and walkways. The position will allow the successful candidate to explore many areas of traffic engineering and road safety through involvement in a range of exciting projects, including the City's MoveSmart Mobility Management Strategy.

At employee request, this position is eligible to take part in our hybrid work model as outlined in the City's Alternative Work Arrangement Policy.

Responsibilities
• Assist Traffic Services staff in a wide range of projects related to the safe and efficient movement of pedestrians and vehicles (i.e. traffic calming plan, parking review, speed review, road safety strategy, traffic control management);
• Research new technologies economic, social and environmental impacts on transportation;
• Assist Technicians in preparing for inspection of city operations programs, including traffic signals, pavement marking, streetlighting, and traffic calming;
• Assist Traffic Services team in creating and updating mapping using GIS software and Autocad, including supporting geospatial analysis and traffic database management
• Assist in the review and preparation of assigned transportation technical reports;
• Assist with logistics for community consultation and engagement events;
• Assist in daily administration operations;

Qualifications and Experience
• Enrollment in university or college program (enrollment in Civil/Transportation Engineering or Planning program considered an asset ;
• Knowledge of the fundamental theory of transportation planning/engineering and statistics;
• Working experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint and other database management software. 
• Proficient knowledge and experience working with Synchro, GIS (e.g. ArcGIS) and AutoCAD;
• Proven ability to work well individually and in a team environment;
• Excellent report writing, communication, analytical, organizational and problem solving skills;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated effective communications;
• Must have a valid "G" driver's license (in good standing) and access to a vehicle;
• Must provide your own safety shoes or boots that meet the CSA "Green Patch" rating;
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
