Job description

The Product Support Technician (PST) for Surface Mining is responsible for supporting current products in the field by providing technical support to internal staff in the office and customers at the customer's site. The PST is also responsible for providing input to the Surface Mining Division engineering team on new product development by participating in design reviews, risk reviews, service/maintenance reviews and creation of operation & service technical documentation when required as part of overall machine design process. 

About the Position: The Product Support Technician is responsible for supporting current products from the Surface Mining Division, providing technical support to internal staff and customers in the office and at the customer's site. This position requires the following proficiencies:
 

  • Travel to customer site/MacLean branches to provide direct technical support globally.
  • Travel to customer sites to troubleshoot, repair and provide recommendations to prevent reoccurring issues.
  • Operate and test mobile equipment according to defined test plans to validate performance
  • Perform customer inspections of new equipment, follow-up to ensure the work is completed before shipment.
  • Audit machines during customer deliveries, provide feedback on performance, recommend spares list for new machines.
  • Support product introduction, either the 1st type to an existing mine or 1st MEMCO unit to a new customer.
  • Technical product training for both external and internal resources.
  • Assist the engineering department with root cause investigation and risk assessments
  • Create and support technical documentation i.e. operator, service, maintenance manuals
  • Provide technical summary reports when required.
  • Prepare feedback for operational improvements and/or deficiencies.
  • Provides technical feedback regarding equipment performance and reliability.
  • Work with Capital Engineering on the development of a new product line.
  • Support manufacturing plants to build new prototype/existing machines.
  • Provide field service and training departments with service, maintenance and operation information on new products and components.
  • Coordinate meetings with external/internal customers.
  • Support technical relationships between MEMCO and component suppliers/3rd party vendors.


About You: The successful candidate(s) must be willing to learn, open-minded and flexible, organized and detail oriented, team oriented, disciplined, and must have a positive attitude, along with the following qualifications:
 

  • Preferred Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic (HDEM) or Mechanical Engineering Technologist, Licensed Journeyman electrician 309A or 442A Industrial Electrician
  • Five to Ten (5-10) years' experience in mining equipment
  • High level of computer literacy and proficiency with MS Office
  • Ability to train and transfer knowledge to others
  • Strong investigation and diagnostic skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally


This position is for the Day Shift, Monday through Friday (5 x 8 hour shifts)
