Job description

Valard, is Canada's premier utility contractor, as well as head of the Valard Group of Companies AND part of the Quanta Group, the largest electrical power contractor in North America. Valard has full-service capabilities for transmission, distribution, substations, foundations, telecommunications, and renewable energy.

The Fleet Manager is responsible for the development and implementation of maintenance and improvement programs as they relate to the continuous operation of a fleet comprised of company owned and/or operated vehicles or equipment units and, buildings, and grounds located at various locations across GTA, ON.

Requirements

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, short-and long-range planning; develops and implements projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals.
  • Participates in development and administration of management reporting systems.
  • Prepares and presents information concerning operational effectiveness and service levels to upper management.
  • Implements policies and objectives consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient operation of Valard's fleet.
  • Oversee the telematics/camera installation and operation of the fleet.
  • Oversees supervisory personnel, which includes resource allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Oversees overall unit activities, vendors, and supplies; monitors contracts for compliance and controls costs; performs quality control inspections to ensure adherence to contract specifications and industry standards.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of company-wide safety programs that associate with maintenance strategies and policies.
  • Assists in developing annual operating budgets and manages the budget by providing fiscal direction to the unit.
  • Directs and coordinates fleet operations and scheduling to ensure availability of vehicles and equipment.
  • Recommend vehicle replacements based on vehicle life-cycle program and cost analysis.
  • Assists with preparation of equipment specifications and coordinates procurement of new vehicles and equipment.
  • Develops and promotes effective work programs that incorporate life-cycle costing concepts and maximize the resources available from operating and capital equipment budgets.
  • Oversees the management of facility and equipment operations that include a variety of scheduled equipment set-up activities, preventive and routine maintenance activities, and emergency/unscheduled maintenance tasks.
  • Evaluates preventive maintenance programs to increase efficiency, service, and effectiveness.


EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION :
 

  • College Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 7-8 years in the related field is preferred.
  • Familiarity with fleet management, ideally in the electric power industry
  • Previous work experience in fleet maintenance an asset
  • Experience in a unionized environment


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITES :
 

  • Self-motivated and influential individ
  • Superior critical analysis and research skills to be able to oversee sensitive and/or operational issues.
  • Strong understanding of Fleet Operations.
  • Good communication skills
  • Proven political acumen, demonstrate sound judgement on sensitive issues.
