The Role:
Mitchell Plastics is looking for a Research and Development Manager to join our team. In this role, the successful candidate will report to the Director of Engineering. This position will be based out of our Technical Centre in Kitchener. The responsibilities would include:
- Responsible for company products and processes and their technical and design competitiveness and innovation
- Search for opportunities for the new products, technologies and manufacturing processes. Provide concepts of new solutions. Create plans for the new products or technologies development. Develop and validate them for implementation readiness
- Develop individual R&D projects and actively support R&D projects of other teams
- Manage R&D activities and resources for the new products and processes development
- Search for opportunities of the company products, technologies and manufacturing processes improvement. Provide concepts for the new proposals and lead those concepts analysis. Support team actively for the selected improvements implementation
- Support design, project, tooling, manufacturing and quality engineers for the product problems identification and analysis. Support engineering team with the solutions concepts and their development until production implementation of those improvements
- Participate in design review meetings for the product design issues detection and their elimination. Support product design development with design evaluations and with recommendations of optimal design solutions
- Continuously develop detailed knowledge and expertise in the current core company products or future products. Share related expertise and experience with respective engineering teams
- Support sales, design and project engineers with the new product concepts and their illustrations
- Promote, encourage and actively support engineering creativity and inventiveness improvement in organization. Develop plan and guide company process for the innovative system implementation into organization. Form a system for stimulating the new ideas creations and process with procedures for innovations evaluations and development
- Benchmarking of vehicles and other products
- Lead and deliver customer presentations, showcasing company innovations, products and services
- Travel to company locations, customers, and other business partners access the United, States, Mexico and potentially other regions as needed (up to 5% travel required)
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Has 5+ years in automotive plastics experience
- Has an Engineering Degree (Mechanical preferred)
- Has a strong understanding of plastics molding & decoration methods
- Has extensive knowledge of and ability to perform broad range of engineering responsibilities associated with R&D project development
- May have an industrial design background
- Possesses an excellent work ethic: Highly self-motivated, self-driven, ability to multitask
- Is creative and forward thinking
- Is capable of working simultaneously on multiple projects and in a team environment
