The Role
We are currently looking for you to take on the role of Production Group Leader or Maintenance Group Leader, based out of our Oshawa Assembly plant. In this role, you will get a chance to be part of a team that acts with integrity and is accountable for results. You will work in an environment that is in a continuous improvement basis when it comes to safety, quality and productivity. In this role, you will have the opportunity to positively influence our Organizational Culture by modeling a dedication to GM's Cultural Behaviors in driving toward and achieving desired business results.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
Production Group Leader:
- Ensure compliance and alignment to all OSHAWA Work Instructions, Policies, procedures and established practices
- Assess the staffing levels to ensure they are adequate to meet daily production targets
- Ensure job instruction training (JIT) is provided to team members
- Monitor work completed by hourly team members and address any performance issues
- Advise Leader of issues that arise during shift per requirements
- Clarify safety issues and lead team members to modify their work habits where required
- Support department operations to achieve objectives in safety, quality, efficiency, and cost
- Update and utilize business boards to handle the overall daily, weekly, and monthly business metrics
- Mentor team leaders on proficiency
- Utilize the Global Manufacturing System (GMS) to drive continuous improvement in all areas of production
- Administer provisions of the Collective Agreement which affect day to day work in the department and work with Employee Relations to resolve issues which may arise
- Track and record scrap in your area and focus on mitigation and prevention procedures
Maintenance Group Leader:
- Develop a proactive safety culture by engaging team members and peers in our safety processes
- Complete safety incident investigations and develop permanent corrective action
- Provide Leadership and direction to Skilled Trades and provide supervision and direction to contractors when required
- Manage Equipment issues and Equipment Breakdowns, develop permanent corrective action
- Develop improvements to standard tasks using SOP's, STS', Maximo and Task Instruction Sheets
- Lead / Participate in continuous improvement events
- Actively support Departmental meetings (Safety, TIP, Quality etc.)
- Support Production department in change management events
- Manage staffing levels for your Group
- Create new PMs, Maintenance PM process and PM scrubbing
- You will conduct appropriate checks and tests, and communicate evaluation of results
- Recommends solutions to problems
- Responsible for preventative maintenance and diagnosis of equipment malfunctions
- Meet schedule and quality requirements
- Align with the terms of local and national labor agreements
- Implements divisional and corporate policies and safety and good housekeeping practices
- Maintain frequent contact and collaboration with others outside of the work group
- Responsible for the effective use of personnel, material and equipment
- Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project. Has knowledge and ability to implement GMS principles
Additional Job Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- University degree / diploma / trade ticket or equivalent maintenance / industrial experience
- Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
- Practical and technical problem solving skills
- Demonstrated understanding of COMMWIP (Correction, Overproduction, Material Movement, Motion, Waiting, Inventory, Processing) or Lean Six Sigma- Waste Elimination
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to manage both employee and equipment budgets as specified
- Understanding of Plant Monitoring and Control training
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to coach and support team members in order to develop them to their full potential
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
- Must be willing to work any assigned shifts & weekend as required
What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience with Labor relations/UNIFOR - Labour Relations Training
- Global Manufacturing System (GMS) knowledge
- Knowledge of Layered Audit process
- Understanding of the GMS and departmental & plant scorecard metrics
- All required Safety Training under GWSS
- Experience in SAP
