Job Responsibilities:

Scope: Continuous improvement of hardware and Robot program applications for CNC, PLC, PC, Motion Control and Automation vision system. Developing and managing new Control System application projects. Assist Operations in special projects, troubleshooting, problem solving of controls and programming as required. 

Key Responsibilities
 

  • Plan, design, develop and implement hardware and software for special Controls projects for new Machine, Automation, Robotic controls, and improvements while maintaining product quality and machine integrity, such as cycle time and part quality management system
  • Calibrate both a robot-mounted and fixed camera using several different methods
  • Setup and configure Application Setup Tools for new projects, as well as troubleshooting
  • Setup and configure Vision Support Tools for new projects, as well as troubleshooting
  • Create multiple vision processes using a variety of locator tools, command tools and process tools
  • Program the robot to respond to vision results
  • Plan, design, Develop and implement procedures, standards and manuals for drive adjustments, CNC specific modes handling, calibration, quality control systems set up
  • Investigate and implement sensor methodologies to improve detection methods, increase equipment efficiency and enhance error proof system.
  • Investigate, experiment, and implement (with proper approvals) controls and programming changes to improve productivity and error proofing on an ongoing basis.
  • Manage Maintenance Information Archive by saving and systematizing PLC, CNC, HMI using multiple software languages, including Fanuc, Siemens, Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, and other Ladder logic programs, drives and quality system parameters, electrical and mechanical drawings, manuals, and all other maintenance related information on company server. Update all the information on daily basis.
  • Maintains consistent documentation and record keeping of all control programs, parameters, and electrical modification in electronic history log, as well as UMG Work Order System
  • Follow ESA permit filing protocol whenever required
  • Provide technical data and documentation to support capital justifications for new controls hardware and software.
  • Assist Maintenance team in troubleshooting and problem solving of controls and programming as required.
  • Act as a technical lead and contact to External parties, such as Automation Integrators (controls, software, and programming) for vendors and actively participate in technical and design reviews.
  • Monitor vendors through build and programming phases to ensure equipment technical specifications are met.
  • Participate at design and final sign off level for new equipment purchases.
  • Perform new design or improvement wiring and panel construction as required.
  • Reduce Line Rejects due to Error Proofing
  • Seek and lead Cycle Time Improvement projects, as required.
  • Maximize Line Productivity/Efficiency and OEE%.
  • Software and Revision Control Compliance to IATF 16949, MAFACT and Global IT Compliance Requirements.
  • Inform IT (Information Technology) Team of software upgrade requirements to ensure smooth operations and continuation of machine uptime.
  • Manage closure of Programming Controls Issues based on committed timing.
  • Prioritize Programming and Controls operational downtime issues to reduce overall machine downtime.
  • Eliminate Risk of Safety Incidents Due to Programming and Controls and ensure that safety relays are in accordance with CSA, ESA and PHSR Standards.
  • Pass on information and provide training to maintenance staff regarding newly implemented control systems and equipment.
  • Perform Industrial Electrician and/or Maintenance Team Leader duties if required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or designate.


Qualifications
 

  • Minimum 10 years of related Automation & Robotics experience in programming
  • Minimum completion of Two-year Degree in Electrical Engineering or accredited. Valid Electrician's license with knowledge of applicable electrical codes is preferred.
  • Exposure to a wide variety of sensor methodologies.
  • Data Collection development experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electric circuitry consisting of relays, PC, CNC and PLC logic, drives, panel mates, press and weld controls.
  • Comprehensive Experience with Fanuc Robotics, Fanuc iRVision, AutoCAD, Fanuc/Siemens/Mitsubishi/Allen Bradley/Omron/Delta Controls, Vision Systems, LVDT and other measuring systems.
  • Ability to use programming devices for troubleshooting and modification of programs.
  • Ability to perform basic wiring work and control panels building.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent analytical and reasoning abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Able to relate/communicate well with people
  • Must have good organization skills, be a self-starter and a team player.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Able to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to communicate and document changes to machine programs in accordance with UMG's Procedure and Policy, i.e., archiving and change management.
  • Able to work weekends, holidays, and plant shutdowns.
  • Flexibility to cover three shifts if required.
  • Open to new systems, which are occasionally established within the department and company.
