JOB SUMMARY

Fleet Maintenance and Technical Services is responsible for: scheduled, unscheduled and emergency service; seasonal overhauls; vehicle commissioning/decommissioning; vehicle inspections and certifications; warranty monitoring; shop and specialty tool maintenance/management; maintenance of small equipment and special equipment such as fire, ambulance, ice resurfacing, turf, etc.; repair performance analysis; and Technical Services including specifying, acquiring, leasing and disposing of municipal fleet vehicles to meet the City's operational requirements.

You are responsible for executing the acquisition plan for vehicles and equipment required by city departments for their daily operations, providing emergency, utility, public works, recreation and corporate services. You also: develop commissioning plans and provide vehicle/equipment monitoring support; provide technical services/expertise for the city fleet; coordinate post-acquisition support services with branch training, parts support and equipment maintenance providers to ensure that new equipment enters service smoothly and without delay; and perform technical and life-cycle investigations, as requir

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 4 year university degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical) or a related field.

Minimum of 5 years of experience engaged in large fleet maintenance activities, including procuring/evaluating municipal vehicles/equipment for performance capabilities and usage, analyzing vehicle/equipment cost reports and evaluating alternatives, and evaluating and analyzing vehicle/equipment performance, reliability and maintainability.

Supervisory experience in vehicle fleet maintenance planning and management is an asset

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Professional Fleet certification from NAFA, APWA or CILTNA is desirable

KNOWLEDGE

 

  • Corporate, departmental and branch policies and procedures
  • Extensive knowledge of vehicle technology & maintenance operations
  • Knowledge of performance and technical specifications for a wide range of vehicles and complex technical equipment
  • Canada Motor Vehicles Safety Standards, National Safety Mark, and Ministry of Transportation of Ontario Highway Traffic Act and Regulations.
  • Vehicle and equipment acquisition and acceptance procedures
  • Knowledge of pollution control devices,
  • Lifecycle investigations and failure analysis
  • Technological developments that minimize environmental impact, such as automotive alternate fuel, energy conservation, etc.
  • Business software and information systems, Fleet Management Information System [FMIS], Project Management, AutoCAD
  • Project management principles and techniques
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
