Autoport Limited is looking for a Rail Supervisor at its facility located in Eastern Passage!

Supervisors are responsible for the oversight of the 24/7/365 operational functions of the railyard, balancing the overall demand to achieve organizational objectives. Our Supervisors assists in achieving goals, growth, and profitability of the terminal ensuring each align with the Eastern Region as a whole. They are responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring planning goals and strategic planning initiatives for long-term success.

Supervisors are accountable to observe and report on compliance with all operating and safety rules, implementing departmental safety initiatives, and supporting inter-departmental safety goals and objectives. This position is responsible to foster strong working relationships with all of Autoport's internal and external stakeholders with a focus on the timely and safe movement of product throughout the entire process from arrival though to yard exit.

Major Responsibilities 
 

  • Coaches employees on safe work procedures, holding all accountable to the goal of zero injuries and zero accidents.
  • Monitors compliance to rules through safety engagements (quantity is proportional to the size of the terminal) including proper feedback (both constructive and positive), take action on non-compliance, and documentation.
  • Executes job briefings before every shift identifying and correcting hazards, working conditions, clarifying expectations regarding work to be performed.
  • Collaborates with external contacts such as transportation on pending arrivals and departures planning placements ensuring efficiencies for both parties.
  • Collaborates with management to plan workload based on respective pipelines, maximizing daily resources across all shifts ensuring consistent terminal fluidity.
  • Monitors employee productivity ensuring no unnecessary downtime and ensuring the labour force is right-sized for the daily operations.
  • As required, modify the plan to achieve the daily goals.
  • Manages employees within the bounds of the collective agreement where applicable, as well as local legislation.
  • Communicates goals and policies to create a clear understanding of direction and expectations.


Qualifications and Requirements
• Leadership skills including communication, planning, problem solving and decision-making.
• Comprehensive understanding of safe rail and work practices is an asset.
• High degree of commitment to safety is required.
• Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and process management.
• Communication skills, both verbal and written and interpersonal skills are required in dealing with clients, supervising staff and directing contractors.
• Demonstrated strong leadership and teambuilding skills.
• Work cooperatively with others while displaying a positive attitude to further the goals of the company.
• Ability to meet deadlines with accuracy in a multi-tasking environment.
• Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, sound judgment and initiative.
• Good computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel/Word), SRS, SAP.
• Ability to work independently or in a team-based environment. 
• Ability to hold people accountable.
• Valid drivers license with clean record
• Emergency Response Training (First Aid/CPR)
