General Accountabilities:
 

  • Manage the effective, efficient use of Transport and Work equipment assets under a centralized workforce to ensure safe, reliable, cost effective and efficient delivery and disposal of equipment to our internal customers
  • Support the Fleet Services Manager in implementing Fleet's goals/objectives/strategies by providing effective analytical and administrative support to other Fleet Groups and to the supported Lines of Business.
  • Ensure accurate input and analysis of information into SAP and Fleet Management system to effectively run the business and to identify and implement continuous improvement and productivity. Data management will include reporting, analysis and benchmarking metrics to support and quantify initiatives and to provide base line information.


Specific Accountability:

Through collateral relationships with respect to the Fleet Services Manager, and within context provided by the Fleet Services Manager (i.e., corporate strategies and policies, accountabilities, tasks, budget and programs, compliance and performance targets, expectations for continuous improvement, etc.), provide the following:

 

  • Manage staff involved in Fleet Services, schedule and assign work to subordinate staff, providing instruction, guidance and checks necessary to ensure work quality and accuracy and conformity to governing regulations.
  • Make effective recommendations regarding staff changes, promotion, performance increase, discharge etc.
  • Manage and monitor overall fleet usage including utilization rates and macro-level operator behaviours.
  • Recommend methods that improve utilization and overall efficiencies of vehicle use to internal customers.
  • Communicate improvement opportunities and concerns to the Fleet Asset Manager, Fleet Analytics Manager and Fleet Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Manage and work with internal customers to influence their fleet at minimum practical complement with maximum utilization to ensure the maximum benefit to Hydro One from the investment.
  • Provide analysis of efficiencies, financial and environmental, achieved through effective use of equipment and tools, including telemetry information and develop means of attributing efficiencies to the appropriate customer.
  • Perform as the lead for subject matter expertise on telematics, informing supported Lines of Business on their respective performance of efficient use of Fleet resources
  • Manage and establish recovery rates for equipment used, to include establishing organizational rates that vary based on effective usage of equipment.
  • Provide analytical and administrative support to the Fleet Services Manager and to other managers within Fleet Services to allow for most effective use of the budget and for continuous improvement in productivity and efficiency.
  • Communicate to regulatory requests and lead development of annual budgeting and financial requirements. Assist user management, and Supervisor with Business Planning and Minor Fixed Asset Budgeting


Managerial Accountabilities
 

  • Manage the unit and achieve the approved programs and targeted results through maintaining a team of subordinates who are capable of producing the outputs required
  • Ensure subordinates are able and willing to produce the desired output, and that subordinate managers continually improve the processes for achieving the outputs
  • Assess staff capability to do the required work, now and in the future
  • Conduct personal effectiveness reviews of subordinates, managers/specialists to build relationships and trust, and to improve effectiveness
  • Mentor and counsel subordinates-once-removed


Accountability for the outputs of others:
 

  • Set the appropriate context for subordinates (i.e. corporate strategies and policies, accountabilities, tasks, budget and programs, compliance and performance targets, expectations for continuous improvement, etc.)
  • Set an effective framework of policies and procedures for the work of the unit
  • Know and ensure own and subordinates# compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, and all corporate policies and procedures, and generally accepted practices relating to the work of the unit
  • Establish a two-way working relationship with subordinates to solicit their views on conditions and potential changes effecting their work, and continuous improvement opportunities


Providing leadership to subordinates, so that they collaborate competently, and with full commitment, with each other in pursuing the goals set:
 

  • Translate the corporate goals and objectives into a direction which guides the work of the unit
  • Communicate that direction to all staff
  • Define specific tasks for subordinates which are required to achieve desired results and/or to accommodate changes required within the business operations
  • Communicate expectations regarding the collateral relationship among subordinates


Providing a safe and healthy work environment:
 

  • Provide subordinates with appropriate knowledge, skills, information, work procedures and equipment to facilitate responsible behaviour which will protect their safety and contribute to their health
  • Provide a work environment and facilities where health and safety incidents are minimized
  • Provide a work environment that supports and values diversity, and is free from harassment
  • Know and ensure subordinates comply with all legal and regulatory requirements, corporate policies and procedures, and generally accepted practices relating to their workDemonstrating Stewardship of the assets and resources:
  • Ensure every reasonable precaution is taken for the protection of subordinates, the environment and the assets
  • Provide for security of human and physical resources, including information


Selection Criteria:
 

  • Requires a knowledge and experience in Project Management and Change Management fundamentals.
  • Requires a knowledge of Vehicle Electrification, Alternate Fuels, Electric Charging infrastructures.
  • Requires a knowledge of Industry Trends in reducing Carbon emissions.
