Our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) location is looking for a Section Lead, Fleet Maintenance, to assist the Site Superintendent with oversight and maintenance of company owned, leased and rented heavy equipment and vehicle fleet assets. What will you be doing! 
 

  • Planning and scheduling maintenance and repairs for all heavy equipment and vehicles.
  • Coordinating repairs and maintenance with internal and external service providers.
  • Providing oversight of contractors during service and maintenance activities of vehicles and equipment.
  • Planning and scheduling rental equipment based on site project and maintenance requirements.
  • Developing, implementing, and administering preventative maintenance schedules for all vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Coordinating insurances, safeties, and permits for site owned fleet vehicles and heavy equipment as well as rental equipment where applicable, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and safety standards.
  • Ensuring all operators and drivers have the necessary licenses and certifications.
  • Maintaining accurate records of vehicle inventory, log sheets, maintenance and repairs.
  • Collaborating with other departments to effectively plan and coordinate vehicle and equipment needs.
  • Assisting in making recommendations for replacement, lifecycles and future sell off of fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Coordinating the mobilization and demobilization of rental equipment to and offsite for various maintenance and project needs.
  • Performing cost transfers of rental equipment fees to appropriate project charge numbers.
  • Conducting regular inspections and audits of vehicles and equipment.
  • Developing and implementing policies and procedures to improve fleet maintenance and operation.
  • Implementing training and guidance for newly acquired vehicles and equipment.
  • Assisting in the development and management for fleet maintenance and equipment budget.
  • Responding to and resolving any maintenance-related issues or emergency repairs regarding heavy equipment or fleet vehicles.
  • Supplying and maintaining appropriate Pre-Trip/Pre-Shift Inspection checklists, ensuring reported necessary repairs are completed in a timely manner.
  • Acting as first point of contact for fleet purchases, rental requests, CarShare program and general inquiries.
  • Reviewing maintenance invoices.
  • Assisting in tracking financial data as expenses against budget, for the department and other projects as needed, and reporting variances as per given guidelines.
  • Providing backup support to other sections within department, or similar roles within the same section ensuring timely support to clients.
  • Participating in special projects as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.


What we are looking for: 
 

  • Education
    • High school diploma or equivalent OR significant applicable experience.
    • Skilled trades education (such as Heavy Equipment Operation) would be an asset.
  • Experience
    • Minimum five (5) years' experience with construction equipment and general site maintenance.
    • Experience in fleet and equipment management would be an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Able to direct and control the safe and efficient operation of all relevant equipment and vehicles.
    • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance processes including preventative maintenance and necessary repairs.
    • Knowledge of licensing, insurance and compliance requirements.
    • Knowledge of supply chain processes.
    • Ability to direct and control the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all relevant construction equipment onsite.
    • Possess technical knowledge of construction equipment to plan and support projects.
    • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office suite to maintain records and generate reports.
    • Ability to assist with leading crews and contractors in various disciplines.
    • Solid working knowledge of Canada Labor Code and safety standards.
    • Demonstrated supervisory and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with others.
    • Financial understanding to review and manage financial performance requirements in a complex organization, to ensure the branch operates on time and within budget.
    • Ability to adhere to project budgets and schedules under pressure.
    • Capable of working independently, take initiative, set priorities and work with internal and external customers.
    • Have strong planning and organizational skills, including keen attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple tasks, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
    • Punctual, dependable and safety minded.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."


Working Conditions: 
 

  • We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day - starting at 6 am.
  • Must possess normal physical agility necessary to perform all aspects of the work that involves bending, lifting and mobility.
  • Work in environments that require personal protective equipment and clothing including construction/decommissioning sites, contamination zones and potentially confined spaces.
  • Office work environment with some exposure to nuclear radiation and industrial hazards during construction/demolition site visits.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all seasons and in extreme outdoor temperatures ranging from 30°C to -40°C.
