Job Summary

Windsor Salt Ltd. is looking for a Maintenance Supervisor to join our underground maintenance team at our Ojibway Mine location. The successful candidate will be a strong people leader, with at least three years of experience supervising unionized skilled trades employees, specifically from a mechanical perspective. Preference will be given to candidates who possess Industrial Mechanic (433A) or Diesel Mechanic (310T) trade certification. Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Supervise unionized skilled trades employees. The position is primarily located underground on a rotating shift but may include supporting surface operations at times.
  • Oversee maintenance/preventive maintenance on stationary and mobile equipment.
  • Develop job plans and execute unscheduled repairs that include parts, methods and coordination between departments.
  • Directly supervise, coordinate, and provide leadership to assigned employees. Train employees on established safety, operating and maintenance, rules and regulations. Hold personnel accountable for their job performance through coaching and discipline if necessary.
  • Understand aspects of collective bargaining agreements and company policies. Resolves personnel problems, supervising in a manner that promotes good labor relations including handling first step grievances. Utilize the CBA and management policies to make clear, fair decisions to efficiently manage required work.
  • Responsible for ensuring safe practices, including daily on-shift inspections, training and orientation, coaching, accident investigations, and accompanying MOL inspectors.
  • Review production equipment to ensure correct operating conditions, enter maintenance notifications into SAP, and enter and complete work orders with appropriate closure codes. Enter PM orders, follow up on orders, and provide PM feedback as required.
  • Maintain records of work performed, absenteeism, downtime, maintenance work requested, accidents, labour relations activities, and production inventories.
  • Communicate with peers, other supervisors, and management as to conditions including hoisting outages, adverse weather, or mechanical breakdowns.
  • Ensure employees are ready for assigned tasks on time and conduct pre and post-shift meetings with crews. Discuss shift challenges and develop solution paths.
  • Enforce safety rules and regulations, conduct regular safety meetings, and promote safe work practices and attitudes.
  • Analyze and supervise repairs, materials, tools, and work conditions.
  • Ensure employees perform and complete quality work on time.
  • Analyze repeat work orders for a better method of repair.
  • Assist storeroom personnel in determining proper inventories and supplies.
  • Ensure the site adheres to OHSA regulations.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Must be a strong people leader with three years of maintenance supervision experience (preferably underground)
  • Must be able to read and understand parts books, technical maintenance manuals, hydraulic schematics and blueprints
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, welding, rigging, diesel repair, basic electrical, and plumbing
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and cooperate with co-workers and supervisors
  • Two years experience with hands-on heavy equipment maintenance and repair; Industrial Mechanic (433A) or Diesel Mechanic (310T) trade certification (preferred)
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
  • Basic computer skills in Word and Excel; SAP experience is a bonus


Physical Requirements/Work Environment

 

  • This job operates partially in a professional office environment.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • While performing field work, is required to wear steel-toe boots, a hard hat and safety glasses.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • The relative humidity is high in summer and low in winter.
  • Work areas are generally dry.
  • Must be able to walk for long distances over terrain varying from soft to hard as well as slick and uneven.
  • Must be able to work from heights and utilize a full-body harness.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend a ladder of at least thirty (30) feet in length.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
