We are seeking a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join our Accounting Team who provides shared services to three different locations. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of semi-monthly payroll, payroll reports, and assuring compliance with all applicable federal and provincial legislation in Canada, as well as adherence to company policies. This role requires an individual who is experienced, mature, self-starter, detailed and takes ownership of this key role in our automotive business.

Responsibilities of the Role
- Full cycle semi-monthly payroll processing of approximately 250 employees. Including but not limited to adding employee profiles, pay changes, retro adjustments, group benefit premium adjustments and status changes
- Prepare and remit TIER 1 payroll source and other deductions
- Complete year-end processes and reporting requirements including tax forms (T4, T4 summary and WCB remittance)
- Prepare, record, and maintain accurate transactions (debits/credits) and general journal entries for payroll and benefits
- Process new hires, employee terminations and employee status changes in payroll and HRM software
- Prepare ROE's as required
- Enroll, maintain and communicate deduction changes from our group benefits plan
- Liaise and provide required information to the Disability Management Office and WCB in a timely manner
- Maintain group benefits and savings plan members and de-group in a timely manner
- Generate confirmation of employment and income letters for employees as requested
- Maintain employee payroll & benefit files
- Monitor legislation and proactively make recommendations for change as necessary
- Feedback to Controller and CFO on "anomalies" in payroll transactions
Knowledge and Skills Required
- 3+ years payroll experience required (automotive experience ideal)
- Proficient in ADP Workforce Now or similar program
- Post-Secondary Education required
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certificate is considered an asset (can be in progress)
- In depth knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards
- Experience calculating and processing payroll for a variety of pay structures including commission, piece work, salary and hourly employees
- Ability to prioritize workloads and utilize planning and time management skills to adhere to strict deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills; skilled in accurately maintaining a large volume of information and data
- Familiar working with information and people in different locations
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- The ability to effectively respond to and meet the needs of a diverse Management Team
- Legally entitled to work in Canada by any employer, without restrictions

- This role is performed in person between two dealership locations within the City of Calgary.
