POSITION: Supervisor, Truck and Airbrake Shop 
REPORTS TO: Manager, Production
DEPARTMENT: Rail Mechanical- Diesel Shop
LOCATION: North Bay
REFERENCE: 300-188-25
SALARY: $86,710 - $101,998

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
The Supervisor is responsible to ensure safe, efficient, profitable and timely completion of all the types of truck and airbrake work for internal and external locomotive, freight and passenger customers. The Supervisor ensures that production schedules are met, and work is completed in accordance with quality specifications (Transport Canada and EMD). 

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise shop staff to ensure everyone completes tasks in a safe manner that adheres to company policy and applicable regulations.
  • Organize and plan work performed in truck shop for internal and external locomotive, freight and passenger customers
  • Ensures applicable training is current to meet AAR, Transport Canada qualifications
  • Ensure work performed meets AAR, Transport Canada and other rules and regulations
  • Update training documents as required
  • Prepare quotes and all required paperwork when an order is received.
  • Prepare accounts receivable input form for invoicing and billing as required
  • Arrange for shipments and prepare associated documentation
  • Review work that falls within department scope and develop plan based on workforce and priorities to ensure deadlines will be met.
  • Coordinate with external customers, operations, Metrolinx, Outside RIP and Wheel Shop for upcoming work, project status and material needs
  • Proper and timely documentation ensuring regulatory standards and requirements are met.
  • Track training in accordance with applicable documents to ensure staff meet requirements
  • Prepare for internal and external audits, including associated documentation

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Trade Certification in either Railway Car Technician (268R), Automotive Service Technician (310S), Truck and Coach Technician (310T), Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (421A), or equivalent trade certificate
  • Secondary School Diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED)
  • 5+ years of relevant locomotive, tradesperson and leadership experience
  • Health and safety including WHMIS experience
  • Experience in using Microsoft Suite, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work schedule/shifts
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good Problem solving, teamwork, leadership skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, coaching, counselling skills
  • Commitment to Health and Safety
  • Over 5 years of experience in truck and airbrake, and with non-destructive training (mag par, ultrasonic testing, QA welding) preferred
  • Over 5 years of experience as a supervisor and working in a unionized setting
  • Knowledge of AAAR regulations preferred
  • Prints and troubleshooting preferred
