Position Purpose:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Fleet, this position is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing vehicles and other related equipment used within the company such as hydraulic tools, chain saws, trailers, etc. The incumbent is responsible for outfitting vehicles for service with equipment as required for efficient operation.
Responsibilities:
- Perform all aspects of motor vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair pertaining to a fleet including Light Duty to Heavy Duty Trucks, hydraulic repairs on aerial devices and digger derricks as well as various types of utility equipment.
- Provides vehicle service to ensure vehicles are reliable and dependable. Conducts physical and safety checks on vehicles and provides support documentation for the vehicle.
- Conducts preventative maintenance checks to ensure minimal disruption to the fleet. Maintains accurate and up-to-date records to ensure preventative maintenance is scheduled to avoid downtime of vehicles.
- Conducts license inspections for safety checks and ensures up-to-date licensing and insurance information is in the applicable vehicle.
- Performing safety standards inspections and PMCVI inspections.
- Requisitions supplies to ensure fleet related supplies are readily available.
- Participate in emergency call-out duties as required.
- Responsible for a working knowledge and understanding of and make all efforts reasonable to work in accordance with and ensuring work is done in compliance with the appropriate safety legislation, EUSR rules, Alectra policies and procedures and safe work practices that apply to the work while adhering to the internal responsibility system. Reports any unsafe conditions or observed unsafe work practices using Alectra procedures.
- The incumbent may be asked to perform other related duties which may be assigned from time to time.
Education & Specialized Knowledge
- Truck and Coach Technician Certification.
- Requires valid D/Z Driver's License.
- Active membership in good standing with the Skilled Trades of Ontario.
- A/Z Driver's License (an asset)
- Automotive Technician certification (an asset).
- Diesel certification (an asset).
- Propane mechanic certificate (an asset).
- Certified overhead crane operator or equivalent experience (an asset).
- Utility Fleet Equipment Mechanic Certification (an asset).
Experience
- Minimum five (5) years related experience.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies
- Demonstrated ability to solve new and/or complex problems.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with coworkers and members of the public to achieve positive outcomes for the company.
- Demonstrated ability to read and follow work orders, specifications and standard instructions.
- Must possess good computer skills.
Working Conditions
- Work involves considerable levels of unpleasant conditions or hazards, resulting in moderate discomfort or risk of danger - work is performed predominantly outdoors.
