Position: Mechatronics Engineer / Controls and Systems Design Engineer

Location: Waterloo, ON (On-site 4 days per week)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Compensation: $100,000 - $140,000 

About the Role: OpenTrust Consulting is seeking a skilled and motivated Mechatronics Engineer / Controls and Systems Design Engineer to play a key role in designing, programming, and optimizing automation systems. This is an exciting opportunity to work on high-impact projects in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, contributing to cutting-edge advancements in industrial automation. The ideal candidate is an expert in PLC & HMI programming, electrical schematics, and industrial safety standards.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Design, develop, and optimize mechatronic and automation systems, ensuring seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, and software components.
  • Program and troubleshoot PLC & HMI systems, with a preference for experience in Mitsubishi, Keyence, or AB platforms.
  • Develop and interpret electrical schematics using AutoCAD or SolidWorks Electrical.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian Electrical Code, particularly within an industrial setting.
  • Work with robotics and robot programming, cameras, and vision systems to enhance automation processes.
  • Oversee safety compliance, including CSA and PSHSR requirements for equipment safeguarding.
  • Participate in customer installations, conferences, and trade shows, with occasional speaking engagements.
  • Travel to the U.S. 3-4 times per year for installations, client meetings, and industry events.

Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years of experience in Mechatronics, Automation, or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in PLC & HMI programming; experience with Mitsubishi, Keyence, or Allen-Bradley is highly desirable.
  • Expertise in electrical schematic design and interpretation using AutoCAD or SolidWorks Electrical.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code with a focus on industrial applications.
  • Experience with robotics, robot programming, cameras, and vision systems is an asset.
  • Familiarity with CSA and PSHSR safety requirements for industrial equipment is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with stakeholders and represent the company at trade shows.
  • Willingness to travel to the U.S. for customer engagements and industry events.
  • Experience in the automotive industry is a plus.
