The automotive industry is currently firing on all cylinders, and you feel that you are performing well in your current position, although a feeling of insecurity has started to creep in lately. Is it just your imagination? Numerous factors lead us to believe that we are solidly entrenched in the organization, but several telltale signs are often associated with the beginning of the end of our employment situation. Whether valid or not (and we rarely agree that they are), these signs are usually easy to recognize.
While you must be careful not to slip into a state of total paranoia, take a look at the seven warning signs that may be signalling that it’s time to launch an active job search:
– Certain key files that you were handling have been transferred to less experienced co-workers;
– You’ve been assigned to train a co-worker or newbie to handle tasks that were your exclusive responsibility;
– You are no longer in the loop as to the important decisions that affect your department;
– Your performance and results are being reviewed more frequently;
– Your performance review yielded results that are below your usual output although nothing in your daily routine has changed;
– Performance incentives and bonuses which have been attributed for the longest time have been suddenly revoked, without explanation, and
– Your boss is avoiding you as if you have the plague.
Have any of these points become the new norm? It may be wise to ask for some one-on-one time with your immediate supervisor to clarify your employment situation.
The explanations that you will receive will help you make an informed decision as to whether you should stay put, or immediately update your resume.
